The first welsh cobs with the Dyffryngwy prefix were out of Llamri Jet Lady by Parc Sir Ivor. In 1987 a colt by Geler Sambo was registered as Dyffryngwy Star Lad and a further three colts were registered in subsequent years – 3 full brothers by Cascob Dafydd Ddu – namely Dyffryngwy Brenin, Dafydd & Lucky Lad 1989, 1991 & 1992.A further 3 colts by Jet Lady were registered but it was only with the purchase of two additional foundation mares that the female line got under way.
Abercippyn Black Bess f. 1992 is by Aberconwy Tywysog Du and out of a mare called Patyfid Flying Lady who was by Trevallion Prince Comet. She has now been retired from breeding but leaves an impressive “B” line of females at the stud, with three daughters, Boneddiges, B & Briallen as well as 5 granddaughters, namely Cariad B, Myfanwy, Hannah, Queen B & Her Majesty.
Pennal Sian f.1993 was by Parc Matador and out of a mare called Gwarcoed Molly who was by a Pentre Eiddwen Comet stallion and out of a Meiarth Royal Eiddwen mare called Ionos Polly. She has only recently been lost, but leaves three females to continue her “S” line at Dyffryngwy namely Sparkle f.1999 by Egoes Rhamant, Sali Mali f. 2008 by Trevallion Picasso & Siwan f.2011 by Geler Dago.
Almost all the stock at Dyffryngwy are shown at some point in their lives, and most are also broken to ride whilst still fillies.
Today, as well as Gwyneth breeding cobs, her brother Gareth also breeds cobs under the Glanhafren prefix and her neice, Gareth’s daughter Geralene, also breeds Section As under the Ger-y-llyn prefix. These family members together with support from the Oliver family, particularly David, as well as Gareth Ruggeri, who shows for Gwyneth along with David Oliver, means that a modest sized stud has achieved some very commendable results in a relatively short length of time, with cobs competing to the very highest level in the UK as well as oversees both in hand and under saddle.
